Sheikh Nizam Yaquby


Sheikh NizamYaquby is an Islamic Shariah advisor, and one of the most highly respected figures in the field of Islamic banking and finance. Sheikh Nizam is a member of the Islamic Fiqh Academy and Auditing and Accounting Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions.


He is a member of many Sharia Boards including Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole CIB, Dow Jones Islamic Index, HSBC Amanah, Lloyds TSB, and Citi Islamic. Sheikh Nizam is called upon frequently to consult with governmental and regulatory authorities on issues related to Islamic finance, and he is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences worldwide.

Sheikh Nizam is a Bahraini national and holds a Ph.D in Islamic Law from University of Whales and a BA in Economics and Comparative Religion from the McGill University in Canada.

Sheikh NizamYaquby received guidance in classical Shariah from prominent scholars such as Abdulla al-Farisi, Yusuf al-Siddiqi, MuhammedSaleh al-Abasi and MuhammedYasin al-Fadani. Having taught tafsir, hadith and fiqh in Bahrain since 1976 Sheikh Nizam continues to contribute important original research on many aspects of modern Islamic finance and is an author of several articles and publications that have been published in both English and Arabic. Sheikh Nizam has edited several Arabic manuscripts.In February, 2007, Sheikh Nizam won the Euromoney Award for “Outstanding Contribution to Islamic Finance”. He was awarded the inaugural ZakiBadawi Award for Excellence in Shariah Advisory in 2008.
